JIRCAS Visiting Research Fellowship Program (Tsukuba) for Developing Countries in Japan, 2014-2015

Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences (JIRCAS) is offering visiting research fellowship program for qualified researchers from research institutes/universities in developing countries. Fellowships are awarded to carry out collaborative research for the rapid and sustainable development of agriculture, forestry and fisheries compatible with the preservation of the natural environment. Researches will be conducted at the JIRCAS Headquarters in Tsukuba. The fellowship covers a period of one year starting from October 1, 2014 to September 30, 2015. The application deadline is April 21, 2014.

Study Subject (s): Fellowships are awarded to carry out collaborative research for the rapid and sustainable development of agriculture, forestry and fisheries compatible with the preservation of the natural environment.

Course Level: Fellowships are available for pursuing research programme.

Scholarship can be taken at: Japan (Researches will be conducted at the JIRCAS Headquarters in Tsukuba.) 

Accreditation:
Establishment of the Tropical Agriculture Research Center by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.

Eligibility:

-Be a national of a developing country.

-Be currently employed in a research organization or university in the applicant's home country where he/she is actively engaged in research relating to agriculture, forestry and fisheries. After the completion of the Fellowship, he/she must be willing to return to his/her country to continue to carry out research at the same research institute or university.

-Should be endorsed by the authority of the institution where the applicant is employed.

-Hold at least a Master's degree in a field relating to socio-economics, natural sciences or technology.

-Should be in good health.

-Have an adequate command of English and/or Japanese language.

Scholarship Description: JIRCAS, through international collaborative research, one of the schemes of its main activities, aims to provide scientific solutions to the various problems confronting the countries in the developing regions of the world, particularly in the areas of agriculture, forestry and fisheries. In line with this scheme, JIRCAS launched the JIRCAS Visiting Research Fellowship Program in 1992. Since then, every year, JIRCAS invites promising researchers from research organizations in developing countries to conduct research work under the supervision of JIRCAS researchers. This fellowship program has two types: (1) Tsukuba-Okinawa (2) Project Site. Under the Tsukuba-Okinawa fellowship program, JIRCAS invites qualified researchers from research institutes/universities in developing countries to carry out collaborative research for the rapid and sustainable development of agriculture, forestry and fisheries compatible with the preservation of the natural environment. This year, however, the call for applications for the former type is open only for Tsukuba.

-A round-trip airline ticket (economy class) (not available for dependents)

-Living allowance: \7,700 per day (excluding housing allowance)

-Housing: Allowance: Based on regulations for government housing

-Facility: Tsukuba International House (TIH)
