Position Description: The job of Employee Relations Manager is for the purpose/s of assisting Human Capital Department in the daily administration of department activities as relates to terms and conditions of employment, disciplinary action, grievance management, performance management, terminations, industrial actions, legal compliance in regards to all HR processes

Key responsibilities:

•   To advise, guide and support managers with all matters relating to employee relations  such as disciplinary proceedings, performance management, grievance and absence management in line with Bank's policies and procedures  

•   Developing effective relationships with the business to promote good employee relations across the Bank.

•   To ensure compliance of applicable labour legislation, Stanbic IBTC Holdings policies,   procedures that impact on the individual employment relationship.

•   Execute proactive employee relations initiatives to ensure consistency and fairness throughout the Bank.

•   Up-skilling of Line Managers, DE Chairpersons and Forensics on ER matters (including  ongoing advice and guidance).

•   Analyse case file and assess risks and options (if any), as well as the most effective way of resolving ER related matters.

•   Continually keep HC team abreast of recent precedent-setting cases arising from the Industrial Court.

•   Maintain relationships with external stakeholders e.g. Ministry of Labour, etc.

•   Advice and guide on pay related matters. Pay reviews, reward projects, changes to pay related terms.

•   Carry out periodic reviews of expectations of external stakeholders with respect to labour issues and resolve disputes and grievances by providing advice on industrial law.

•   Periodically review best practice industrial practices in the market and among competition to ensure Stanbic IBTC is favourably placed.

•   Review and monitor organization's labour policies and ensure compliance with government regulations in labour matters, as well as represent Stanbic IBTC with external labour related bodies as required.

•   Maintain records of all industrial and employee relations events and activities.

•   Communicate with employees on the purpose of providing information and assistance concerning personnel records and/or labour relations and related legal requirements.

•   Develop a wide variety of written materials in both manual and electronic formats (e.g. compliance reports, forms, procedures, brochures, pamphlets, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying ER related information.

•   Inform employees regarding a variety of procedures and program requirements (e.g. employee policies, legal compliance guidelines, sick leave, annual leave etc.) for the purpose of providing necessary information for making decisions, taking appropriate action and/or referring to someone else if appropriate.

•   Investigates a variety of Human Resources related issues (e.g. Wage and Hour, Harassment, Discrimination, employee disputes, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that effective, legally compliant resolutions are arrived at in a timely manner and within given guidelines.

•   Participates in meetings that involve a range of issues as needed and/or assigned (e.g. personnel actions, regulatory requirements, actions involving outside agencies, inter-department needs, collective bargaining, etc.) for the purpose of developing recommendations and/or supporting other staff.

•   Presents information on a variety of topics (e.g. labour relations, affirmative action, employment, hiring, etc.) for the purpose of conveying information and/or making recommendations regarding district services.

•   Responds to written and verbal inquiries from a variety of internal and external sources for the purpose of resolving ER related issues, providing information and/or referring to appropriate personnel and/or identifying the relevant issues and recommending or implementing a remediation plan.

•   Supports the Human Resource Consultant and department staff as needed and/or assigned for the purpose of assisting in the performance of their work activities.

•   Ensure Employee grievance process are adequately monitored and resolved in line with the Bank's policy.

Key performance measures:

• Execution of proactive employee relations initiatives across the Group.

• Improved knowledge of Line Managers, DE Chairpersons and Forensics on ER matters.

• Timely resolution of all employee related issues

Required Skills and Qualifications:

Qualifications: Candidate must possess a minimum of second class lower degree in any discipline but preferable in Law i.e. LLB; BL will be an advantage.

Experience:

• Candidate must have a minimum of 3 years experience in employee relations in a Financial Institution

• Experience in legal practice will be considered
