ASUP Strike Update: Union Leaders To Meet Thursday

The leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP are to hold a meeting on Thursday, 12th June to deliberate on the outcome of the recent negotiation between the union and the federal government.

A national member of ASUP, who pleaded anonymity, said that the negotiation between the FG is fruitful and the union executives are meeting to seek the way forward.

It will be recalled that the Supervising Minister for Education, Chief Nyesom Wike had assured the union that the Federal Government would resolve the on-going strike, saying it was deploying all means to reach an agreement with the striking lecturers of the polytechnics and college of education.

The intervention of the House of Representatives in the strike appears to have influenced the seeming progress in negotiations but the union executive said that Thursday's meeting does not mean the strike will be called-off that day.

As the students has been at home for over a year, we urge all stakeholders in the education sector to put hands together and hasten the resolution of the strikes currently crippling the tertiary institutions in the country.
