Key stakeholders in the political and corporate world have again stressed the need to enthrone developmental leadership in Nigeria as this is the only way to rescue the country from political crisis.

Presidential candidate of African Democratic Congress (ADC), Pat Utomi, in his paper presentation at the 2nd annual conference of the Academy of Entrepreneurial Studies, Nigeria (AES) in Lagos said that the leadership behaviour is what shapes the culture of a people while values sustain society in the long run.

In his paper titled 'Leadership and Economic Development: An appraisal' Utomi expressed sadness that people who make policy decision in Nigeria were disconnected from the people because they pay allegiance to godfathers.   He further informed that the current crisis facing the nation has to do with the failure of the leadership in Nigeria,

"The recent blood letting in Jos is as a result of lack of education and poverty", he said, noting that "no matter how we engage in this project, we need to build leaders who are not consumed by self- love".

Ausbeth Ajagu, president of AES, in his address, pointed out that the drive to arrive at a country with free and democratic society has become a mirage because a nation endowed with both human and material resources has 71 percent of its citizens suffering from poverty after almost 50 years of independence because of poor leadership from successive administrations.

Ajagu further informed that Nigeria at 50 can hardly boast of satisfactory delivery of infrastructure due to the lack of transparency and accountability in governance over the years which was what led the private sector move to set the country in the right perspective.   Earlier in his address, Babatunde Fashola, governor of Lagos State, disclosed that the issue of entrepreneurial studies holds the key to the economic revolution and industrial growth of the nation.
