Investigations revealed that oil marketers are ripping off consumers by selling the product at more than 100 per cent margin after getting supply from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) at less than N50 per litre, but sell N140 per litre to consumers.

The NNPC Group General Manager, Public Affairs Division, Dr Levi Ajuonoma, said Findings  showed that marketers' prefered to sell to neighbourhood dealers with surface tanks at pre-arranged period of the day, mostly at night. He also said, the corporation was aware that many marketers allegedly hoarded the product and sold at night.

"Many of you are aware that many marketers sell the product at night to people we identify and report to Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) or security agencies very soon. There are issues with the practice through which this kerosene is being sold," he said.

"We condemn in totality selling of the product to people at night while people are on queue for days and they do not have access to this product. How can someone now appear at night with 50 to 100 jerrycans? Where are they taking them to? Marketers get this product at N49.50 per litre from the NNPC and we expect them to also sell at N50 to end users," Ajuonoma stated.
