The Lagos State government has cleared 17 out of the 19 PhD certificates withdrawn by the management of Lagos State University (LASU).
.
Mr Fatai Olukoga, Special Adviser to the governor on Education, made the disclosure, saying that the certificates were cleared after due process.
.
Olukoga explained that 19 lecturers were alleged to have obtained fake PhD certificates.
.
He said that the remaining two lecturers failed to appear for clearance because they are members of the Academic Staff Union and their certificates still remained withheld.
.
He blamed the management, Academic Staff Union and Students Union Government of the institution for the continuous closure of the institution.
.
"I cannot see a reason why students will fight because there is no light on their campus, do they have light in their homes?
.
Olukoga said the union members should be very careful, adding that it was only in Nigeria that union dictates and have their way in everything.
.
He added that the government had paid N209 million as a refund to students on hike in tuition fees.
.
The adviser said that the management of the institution did not have records for the remaining balance.
