Ogun moves to recover govt’s property from Daniel aides

ABEOKUTA—Ogun State Government yesterday set up a committee to retrieve state's property from some top officials of the immediate past government of Otunba Gbenga Daniel and issued a 48-hour ultimatum to affected individuals to return the said property.

The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Yusuph Olaniyonu, who said this at his maiden briefing in Abeokuta, added that the government made available about 15,000 recruitment forms towards providing 10,000 jobs.

Though Olaniyonu did not name the affected persons, he said the assets included houses, vehicles and government's number plates.

He argued that ordinarily the concerned individuals ought to have returned property within two months, but failed to do so till now.

The commissioner said the committee headed by the Commissioner for Housing, Mr. Falilu Sabitu, would fashion out the process of retrieving the property.

He said: "We already have the reports of various people who are abusing and illegally using government's property.

"While commissioners and most of the top government officials have nowhere to stay, some of the government officials in the past administration are still illegally holding unto these property. We have given them enough time to return them but failure to do so, government will take action based on the recommendation of the committee that is saddled to look into the matter."

On the promised 10,000 jobs, Olaniyonu, noted that 15,000 employment forms had been distributed to all the Local governments in the state to be issued free.

He said, "The forms will not be sold, it is free. We have warned all local governments' caretaker committees, that there should be no report on that. What will the government generate on that? If there is any report on the selling of the form please, let me know or the committee on the distribution of the forms."

He added that the committee was headed by the Deputy Governor, Prince Segun Adesegun, while "Commissioner for Special Duties, Prince, Lanre Tejuoso, and Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Lanre Sonubi are members. The committee is mandated to ensure quality in terms of distribution and consider gender equality."
