Smuggling: 4 Indians Remanded In Ikoyi Prison

Four Indians, out of the 17 persons who were recently arrested and paraded by the Federal Operations Unit (FOU), an anti- smuggling arm of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in Ikeja, Lagos, for attempting to illegally export four container loads of scrap metals have been ordered to be remanded in Ikoyi prison.

The value of the four containers of scrap metals were valued by the Customs at about N72 million. It would be recalled that the content of one of them was allegedly soaked in mud so as to disguise it as ordinary dirt inside the container.

Federal High Court justice, Okon Abang, at Ikoyi ordered Mr Vikas Das; Mr Naresh Gupta; Mr Dharmin Bhatt and Mr Nilesh Mmodi, to be remanded, noting that the first accused was the Managing Director of Everest Metal Nigeria Limited, the company which was said to own the consignments.
