YES Sponsorship

The YES programme is funded through sponsoring and voluntary contributions. The information related to the application period for the YES contest as well as the related "Application Form" is always available in their website in February.

YES Objective

The "Youth Education Scheme (YES)" is a positive and assertive stance by the ITU-D "Children and Youth" Special Initiative, in support of needy and deserving young people, from Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and developing countries who wish to complete their tertiary education in the information and communication technologies (ICTs) and related fields. The objective is to enable young people to contribute to the development of their communities, country and region using their achieved ICT knowledge and skills.

Applicants Eligibility Conditions

The goal of the selection procedure is to identify talented young people who are unable to complete their studies in ICTs and related fields without financial support. In this regard, the candidate must fulfill the following requirements:

•   Coming from a Least Developed or a developing country
•   Be between 20 and 30 years of age
•   Provide a very good school curriculum
•   Provide two letters of recommendation (preferably from teachers from the most recent school)
•   Provide an essay indicating their motivation to complete their studies.
•   Priority will be given to applicants who wish to continue their studies in their own country or in a neighbouring country, or region.

Scholarship Conditions

•   Youth Education Scheme scholarship programme cover only the tuition fees (registration and studies), up to a maximum of ten thousand United States dollars (10,000 US$)1.
•   Tuition fees will be paid by the ITU directly to the relevant university.

YES Sponsorship

The YES programme is funded through sponsoring and voluntary contributions. The Spanish and Norwegian Administrations as well as Alcatel-Lucent (France) are sponsors of the YES this year. For the Spanish voluntary contribution, priority will be given to Spanish speaking students respecting the eligibility conditions noted above.

1 Where the studies are undertaken at a Spanish university that is equipped to provide students with board and lodging and agrees to do so for a beneficiary of the YES programme, assistance up to a maximum amount of five thousand United States dollars (US$ 5 000) will be granted to that university to cover the corresponding costs. Such assistance will be paid direct to the university.
