Islamic Body Makes Case for Aregbesola’s Govt

An Osun State-based Islamic organization, the Jama'at Ta'Awunnil Muslimeen, has urged critics of Governor Rauf Aregbesola to be constructive and truthful while passing judgment on the eleven-month old administration of the governor.

The group at a press briefing tagged "Present and Future of Aregbesola's Government"  held in Iwo, last Sunday, said it was unfortunate that some people in the state were busy smearing the integrity of the governor not minding his achievements within the short period of its existence.

According to the President of the organisation, Alhaji Dawod Imran, most of the critics lacked information about issues going on in the state, just as he enjoined all the residents of the state to seek fact and verify them before passing their judgment on the governor.

Imran pleaded with the people of the state to drop their political grievances and personal grudge against Aregbesola and face the reality of the transformational programmes of the governor.

The president warned the society against sabotaging and jeopardizing Aregbesola's effort to develop the state and fulfils his campaign promises.

He commended the governor for the employment of 20, 000 youths under the Osun State Youths Empowerment Scheme (OYES), his flood control projects and the Osun Rural Enterprise and Agriculture Programme (OREAP) which was meant to support farmers and traders in the state.

Imran also appealed to the academic and non-academic staff in all the state owned tertiary institutions to call of their strike and reason with the government on their demand increment in their salaries.

He urged the workers to accept the 75 percent increment offered them by the state government as a starting point in the interest of the students, who have been at home for three-months.

Speaking at the programme, a chieftain of the Action Congress of Nigeria, Professor Oyetoro Olasupo en8joined the people of the state to support Aregbesola on his developmental programmes with good observations, ideas and projects.

Oladipupo said it would be an unpleasant commentary for some set of people to say that Aregbesola has not done anything for a good year.
