OpenNMS is an open source enterprise-grade network management platform. OpenNMS will monitor both service and the hosts they run on and inform you of any errors and provide statistical information you require. To be an enterprise-grade application OpenNMS can be run distributed and scale to an unlimited number of devices. Like many other network management systems OpenNMS has a discovery feature that allows it to auto-detect devices on the network. Among the services it monitors are: HTTP, IMAP, database systems, SMTP - and many others.
