Eligibility:
We usually expect that your first degree should be either in English or in a joint-honours degree which includes English. (A degree in American Studies is accepted for students applying to work in American Literature and Culture.) Normally we expect applicants to have a First or a good II.i degree. Scholarship will be available for an international student for study in the School of English from October 2012.

Scholarship Description:
Bonamy Dobrée, Professor of English at Leeds 1936-55, is today best known for his work on Restoration and eighteenth-century literature, and for a notable study of Kipling. From the 1920s as a journalist, theatre critic and literary scholar, he was on the fringes of the Bloomsbury group, a close friend of T. S. Eliot, Leonard Woolf, and Herbert Read. At Leeds he is remembered as a supportive teacher and mentor, and his papers now in the Brotherton Library have proved a valuable resource for scholars.
