I wish to thank and congratulate mr presidend for the Road map and the recent election. I want him to tacle these two issues of education and power to a logical conclusion. Closer suppervion of these sectors is paramount. Give them timeline and standards, keep track of every kobo spent. Insure that the right contractor is given the job to be done. Don't relay on the reports of the minister or the direct engineer have time to see the progress of each stage of the jobs.
At the end of your four years,Nigeria and the international community would have no option but to righ your name on the success of the Nation.

I received reports about increments in the price of cement last month and gave directives to cement manufacturers and importers to work with the government on reducing the price of the product. Today, I am glad to report to Nigerians that the price of cement has dropped by 25%. As I said in my inaugural address, with God's help, I will never fail you and will always put the needs of the common man above mine.

Talking About the Economy

Certainly inflationary trends do concern me and that is why I personally monitor them. In recent years they have been within manageable bounds and as an administration we intend to gradually bring it down even as we maintain a steady GDP growth. We are looking good for achieving both objectives this year and our projected GDP growth of 7% is amongst the best projections in the world for 2011. However, we still need the buy in of Nigerians in this endeavor which is why I want to urge all Nigerians to as much as possible patronize Nigerian made goods.

I do understand that there are products that we do not yet produce in Nigeria and the government is working to address that. This takes time. But while we work on that, we all can make a contribution to Nigeria's progress by making a conscious effort to patronize Nigerian made products rather than foreign goods in cases where a Nigerian alternative exists.

I did say in my inaugural speech that I will (with God's help) "never, never let you down". I will not surround myself with yes men and women rather I am prepared to go to the farthest corners of the earth to bring into government some of the best Nigeria has to offer which is why I nominated a number of brilliant Nigerians including Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala to serve with me.

Our youth corpers have sowed a sacrificial seed for the greatness of Nigeria by being there when Nigeria needs them most especially in service to the most needy Nigerians and we cannot expect our youth to give us their best without Nigeria giving them her best. This is why I approved the upward review of youth corpers wages from 9,700 Naira to 19,800 Naira.

I sympathize with the government and people of Lagos on the floods that ravaged parts of the state and led to loss of lives and property. I spoke with the governor and I have assured him that the government and people of Lagos State can count on the Federal Government's assistance in implementing a lasting solution to this menace.

Last week I met with the German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Abuja in the first visit by a serving German Chancellor to Nigeria in 33 years. Yesterday, I met with the British Prime Minister, David Cameron in Lagos. Both meetings underscore the growing respect the world has for us when we have credible democratic institutions.

Dear friends, in furtherance of my policy of transparency between you and I, let me reassert that the bill I propose to send to the National Assembly is a Single Tenure Bill for which I will NOT be a beneficiary and which if approved by you, the people, will take effect from 2015.

It is very heartening to me that Nigeria has been declared one of the top three investment destinations of choice in Africa (number 2) by the independent Africa Business Panel in The Netherlands.
