Last year, at various fora, I declared that credible elections will lead to a significant drop in challenges to elections. Today, I am vindicated that as the deadline for filing petitions closes Nigeria has recorded a 75% drop in petitions from the 2007 figures. By bringing transparency to all governmental process we will rid Nigeria of all manner of disputes.

On the 23rd of May, I made a statement on this page to the effect that since transparency in the 2011 elections had brought about a reduction of election disputes by 75%, I would ensure that disputes in all aspects of our national life are minimised by ensuring transparency in all governmental processes.

By signing the FOI Bill, I am committed to lifting the veil covering governance. In the 80's we heard of Glasnost (Openness) and Perestroika (Restructuring) from Gorbachev and the Berlin Wall came down. In Nigeria, there is a breath of Fresh Air ushering an era of Transformation and Transparency and the walls of Corruption will be brought down not just by the government but by you the good people of Nigeria.

I believe in the doctrine of Separation of Powers and I salute the Senate and the House for electing their leaders in a transparent process. I congratulate the Senate President, Senator David Alechenu Bonaventure Mark and the Speaker of the House, Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal. Again, it is only by ensuring transparency in all governmental processes that we will first put in and then get the best out of Nigeria.

As this administration ensured that the INEC is independent and seen to be so, we have ensured that Law Enforcement agencies are independent. Furthermore, I insisted we obeyed EVERY court order since we came into being proving that the Rule of Law as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution as amended is the Fountain of Origin of this administration and you can take that to the bank.
