Lion kills farmers

 A LION in the Gujba forests, Yobe State has killed two farmers in Mahadiyya village, Gujba Local Council.

The lion also decimated sheep and goats on its rampage in the forests on Monday.

However, the wildlife rangers of the Ministry of Environment could not go after the rampaging lion because their guns had been seized by the operatives of the State Security Service (SSS) as part of efforts being made to overcome the security challenges in the state.

Confirming the lion's attacks yesterday, Commissioner of Environment, Ahmed Wakil Sarki said: "The wild lion attacked and killed two farmers along with their 30 sheep and goats grazing in the forests of Gujba. I am mobilising the forests rangers and other local hunters to commence hunting for it because the lion is on rampage and could cause further harm to lives and property in area."

Babayo Maikiwo of Mahadiyya village also told The Guardian that "15 hunters went in search of the rampaging lion on Monday night, but failed to trail and kill it. The lion must be still in the Gujba and Gulani forests scouting for any prey."
