I think it is important for you as students to realize that the space story is one of a remarkable achievement. You should also note that the industrialized world saw space as an unexplored frontier with potentials they could hardly fully foresee, and yet they embarked on doing what they could to conquer it. They did this by mobilizing their country's best resources in academia, politics and society.
