Yenagoa—No fewer than 200 vehicles, belonging to Bayelsa State Government, have been allegedly carted away by political appointees who served in the immediate past administration of Governor Timipre Sylva.

It was gathered that most of the former governor's aides  had failed to hand over vehicles in their possession.

Governor Seriake Dickson, according to a source, had insisted that his administration would not procure new vehicles but ensure that vehicles allegedly carted away by Sylva's political appointees and aides were recovered.

"Virtually all the vehicles in the fleet of the Government House,  had been driven away by Sylva's aides, shortly before the Supreme Court sacked the administration," the source said, adding, "right now, all the new appointees of the governor have no official cars and the governor had ruled out plans to purchase new onesS."

Troubled by the development,  Dickson had, about a week after assumption of office, set up a task force saddled with the responsibility of recovering all the government vehicles and property in the custody of former political appointees.

Commenting on the alleged refusal by Sylva's aides to return their official vehicles, the Senior Special Assistant to the Bayelsa Governor on Media and Public Affairs, Mr. Daniel Iworiso-Markson, in a statement in Yenagoa, said: "Till date, the Committee on Vehicle Recovery has only recovered 15 vehicles out of over 200 or more vehicles in the Government House fleet

"The committee wouldn't have been set up if political appointees had done the right thing by returning government property in their possession."
