Kidnappers demand N70m to free Mosogar monarch’s mother

THREE days after Mrs. Okpa Izobo Omene (Nee Udjor), the 102 –year-old mother of the Ovia of Mosogar kingdom in Ethiope West Local Government Area in Delta State, His Royal Majesty, Samson Okirhobo Moyin Omene, Udurhier I, was abducted by a six-man  kidnap syndicate, the gunmen have refused to release her.

Yesterday, the gang called the family, asking for N70 million ransoms to free the old woman. They initially demanded for N150 million, but when the amount seemed not to be coming, they slashed it to N100 million before coming down to N70 million on Friday.

Meanwhile, a suspect is now helping the police in connection with their investigation into the kidnap of the 102-year-old mother.

Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Charles Muka, confirmed to Saturday Vanguard, weekend, that one suspect was undergoing interrogation in respect of the incident.

A source said preliminary investigation by the police linked the suspect currently in police custody to the aborted abduction of Mrs. Iweta, wife of Madewell Cement Company, Sapele, Prince David Iweta, sometime ago, and the syndicate that abducted Mrs. Omene.

The victim was kidnapped from her residence at Ugbomoya waterside villager,  near Jesse, on Tuesday and has not been seen since then.
