South Africa: PEPFAR Fellowship Programme

The PEPFAR Fellowship Programme was launched in response to the growing need for scarce skills human capacity development in HIV and AIDS care and treatment programmes within South Africa.

The President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) Fellowship Programme offers an exciting opportunity for masters' level graduates and students who have completed 80% of their Masters course work to be placed with HIV and AIDS service organizations (PEPFAR Partners) within South Africa.

Salaried positions are available throughout South Africa with the focus on scarce skills. The PEPFAR Fellowship Programme currently provides funding for up to 45 placement opportunities on an annual basis. The final placement for 2010 commences in October, with intakes for 2011 scheduled for January/ February and June/ July.

The fellowship currently has numerous available positions, each of which has been listed below.

Clinical Mentor for Paediatric Antiretroviral Services

The function of this job is assisting with the scale up and quality improvement of paediatric ART services in Kheth Impilo - assisted districts; primarily through the training and mentoring of clinical staff and introduction of health systems improvements at sites and across districts.

Monitoring and Evaluation Fellow for the Perinatal Health and Research Unit (PHRU)

The successful candidate would be responsible for creating risk scorecards for all operating projects and on a rotational basis facilitate independent audits of the established risk areas providing reporting as to the risk climate.

Monitoring and Evaluation Fellowship with the South African National AIDS Council (SANAC)

The successful incumbent will provide technical assistance to clinical manager in TBCA- supported sites and to ensure quality integrated TB and HIV diagnosis, care and treatment. May be required to perform clinical work as necessary.

Monitoring and Evaluation Fellowship

Reference number: TBHIVCARE_M&E_KZN
Locations: Ixopo, Sisonke, KwaZulu- Natal

As Monitoring and Evaluation Fellow you will be responsible for assisting with the training of the district and facility health officials on the HAST M&E system including voluntary HIV counseling and testing (VCT), prevention of mother to child transmission (PMTCT), HIV care before the antiretroviral treatment(pre-ART), ART, and TB.

The fellow will be expected to:
•Lead and ensure operationalization of an M&E framework and the structure and clarifies roles and responsibilities Provide leadership in the establishment and strengthening M&E unit in GRIP

• Lead development and operationalisation of M&E plans with clearly defined indicators, data sources, data flow and reporting processes
