ADO EKITI—Tension  has enveloped  Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State capital, over the  deposition of a first class chief and the Edemo of the town who is also one of the kingmakers in the town, Chief Bamidele Aduloju, by the Ewi of Ado Ekiti, Oba Adeyemo Adejugbe.

But the embattled chief has vowed to remain in office until the court removes him as an authentic chief representing his quarter in the ancient town.

Oba Adejugbe had, at a briefing in his palace, announced  the removal of the chief for what he described as "disrespect to the custom and tradition of Ado Ekiti and especially the Ewi institution."

The Oba had  earlier in November last year  suspended the chief over alleged "series of misdeeds and rascally behaviour which constituted a flagrant violation of Ado Ekiti customs and traditions."

But Chief Edemo who spoke yesterday, traced the genesis of his ordeal with the monarch  to the family landed property allegedly forcibly ceded to another family by the Ewi.
