Mass transfer hits police

DETERMINED to restore the lost glory of the Nigeria Police, the acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), Alhaji M. D. Abubakar, has effected a major shake-up in the force, involving mass movement of officers and other ranks and files nationwide.

The mass transfer, according to a reliable source at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, was with immediate effect, while handing and taking over must follov suit.

Worst hit in the development were the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in states, zones and at the federal levels and the Special Fraud Unit (SFU), while the various special units at the police formations nationwide, including that of the IGP, had been disbanded.

This was coming just as the IGP again warned commissioners of police not to entertain road blocks in their states, but to, instead, go on motorised patrol.

It was gathered that Abubakar had vowed not to allow road blocks again, despite pleas from some quarters.

"The IG is doing everything to restore sanity on the roads, just wait and see what is going to happen," a source at his office said.
