Boko Haram: IG orders security beef up around media houses

Sequel to the bombing of the offices of This Day and Sun newspaper offices in Kaduna and Abuja by Boko Haram, on Thursday, the Acting Inspector General of Police, IGP, Mohammed Abubakar, has ordered immediate beef of security around all media houses and offices across the country.

The police boss also directed close surveillance of all major installations in parts of the country.

Benue State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Christopher Katso, disclosed this, yesterday, while fielding questions from newsmen in  his office in Makurdi.

Katso said, "Following the unfortunate incidents in Abuja and Kaduna, the Inspector General of Police has ordered all formations in the country to beef up security in all media houses and major intallations across the country".

He said the order was to forestal further targetting of  media houses and to ensure the safety of media practitioners in any part of the country.

While condoling those who lost loved ones in the unfortunate incident, Katso assured that the police had  put measures in place to ensure the safety of journalists, adding that the force had  also intensified it's survellance  to ensure the safety of all Nigerians irrespective of  location.

The Commissioner of Police, who lamented some of the challenges the force is confronted with in it's task of ensuring the proper policing of the country, noted the scarcity of resources in the face of competing demands but urged Nigerians to be security conscious by alerting men of the force of any strange developments in their localities.
