LASTMA: 24-hr patrol duty on Apapa-Oshodi Road

LAGOS – Determined to enforce its zero-tolerance to indiscriminate parking of containerised vehicles on Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, the Lagos State Government has deployed officials of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, on a 24-hour operation to keep the axis free of traffic.

Meanwhile, traffic on Ozumba Mbadiwe Road, Victoria Island, will be diverted from tomorrow to enable the construction company commence work on the road. Motorists and other road-users have been enjoined to take alternative routes. On Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, LASTMA officials would henceforth run a three-shift work- duty, to ensure that normalcy returned to the area.

General Manager of LASTMA, Mr.  Babatunde Edu, said the agency was ready to sustain and enforce compliance of containerised vehicles on Apapa Oshodi Expressway, by engaging the officials of the agency in a three-shift work-duty on 24-hour daily operation to ensure that normalcy returned to the area.

He said: "Government is embarking on the measure to strengthen enforcement as well as ensure compliance to the rule of law in the area."

He added that the state government was committed to alleviating the sufferings of road- users and as such, measures had been put in place to ensure that the yet-to-be completed construction work on the axis do not have heavy negative impact on traffic on the corridor  throughout the duration of the work.

He said traffic-prone areas, such as Tin-Can Island, Michael Ibru Road, Liverpool Road, Wharf Road, Flour Mills Road and Commercial Road, among others would be given special attention, so that the man- hour wasted in traffic is reduced.

Edu urged all depot owners to advise their members to obey traffic enforcement agents, who are strategically positioned to ensure sanity, as the agency would not hesitate to enforce the law on violators.
