Some gunmen yesterday invaded the home of the Ondo South senatorial aspirant of the Labour Party (LP), Hon Boluwaji Kunlere, on Oda Road, Akure, the state capital.

They reportedly entered the home around 1.55am after climbing a tree behind the building to enter the premises.

Yesterday's attack on Kunlere was the fourth. The first was in 2006 before he left Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the LP.

The former Special Adviser to Governor Olusegun Mimiko on Political Affairs was one of the few aides who resigned to seek elective position.

He contested under the ruling LP for Ondo South Senatorial District and lost to Hosea Ehinlawo of the PDP in 2007.

He told reporters that the attack was political and that some people were sending threat text messages to his supporters.

Kunlere said: "Around 1.55am on Wednesday morning, when the guards and the dogs were moving round, some gunmen climbed the tree behind my house to gain entry into the building. Immediately they sighted the guards, they opened fire into the compound.
