Police, suspected kidnappers in shoot-out ... as NNPC staff escapes abduction

AN attempt to kidnap Mr. Sunday Fabiyi, a staff of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Port Harcourt Refinery branch, was Friday foiled by men of the Rivers State Police Command, who engaged the heavily armed abductors in a shoot-out.



According to eyewitnesses, Fabiyi was trailed by the gunmen and was at the point of being whisked away when the police stopped them at Eleme on the outskirts of Port Harcourt.

The Police spokesman in the state, Mr. Akin Fakorede, who confirmed the incident, said Fabiyi was safe, but did not state if any of the kidnappers was shot or arrested during the shoot-out.
