Postgraduate Assistants will be required to register for a Doctoral or Master's degree at Unisa in the Department of Information Science. Applicants are required to indicate in detail on their CVs the extent to which their qualifications and experience meet the requirements of the post as set out below.



The Degree programme may focus on any one of the following:

·         Archives and records management

·         Information and communication technologies

·         Knowledge Management

·         Information organisation and retrieval



Requirements:



(i)    For the doctoral student:

·         A relevant master's degree in Library/Information Science from any Institution recognised by UNISA Senate and with an overall average of 60%,

·         Applicants must be South African citizens.



(ii)   For the master's student:

·         An Honours degree (or equivalent) in Library/Information Science from any Institution recognised by UNISA Senate and with an overall average of 60%

·         Applicants must be South African citizens.



The successful candidates will:

    * preferably be from the designated groups, and be female. However, applications from other groups will be considered.
    * fill a half-day post (08:00 – 13:00) on the main campus in Pretoria.
    * have a contract appointment for one year that may be extended to a second year.
    * register for a Master's or Doctoral degree in the Department. Successful candidates will be considered for internal and other funding.



Duties:

·         Depending on the operational needs of the Department, the successful candidate will be required to perform a variety of tasks, which may include the following:

Ø     Assisting researchers with administrative duties regarding research

Ø     Participation in appropriate research activities of the Department

Ø     Deliver jointly with his/her supervisor, one conference paper annually in his/her area of research and in local conference.

Ø     Publish jointly with his/her supervisor, one standard article annually in his/her area of research and in any journal under the name of UNISA as the institutional affiliation.

Ø     Conduct limited undergraduate teaching

Candidates with foreign qualifications must also submit the South African equivalent of the qualification. These qualifications are evaluated by SAQA.
