Nigeria hosts world gastroenterologists

LAGOS – Internal Medicine physicians specialising in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the digestive system (Gastroenterologists) from all parts of the world are expected to converge in Tinapa, Cross River State from November 22-24, for the Sixth Congress of the African Middle East Association of Gastroenterology, AMAGE.

Organised in collaboration with the Society of Gastroenterology and Hepatology in Nigeria, SOGHIN, the AMAGE congress has been endorsed by the World Gastroenterology Organisation,WGO, whose secretary general, Prof. Chan Yurdaydin will  represent the world body at the congress in Tinapa.

In a statement, President of AMAGE Congress, Prof. Hussein Abdel-Hamid and the General Secretary, Prof. Olusegun Ojo, said Nigeria was chosen to host the congress because of its position as one of the important gates to the Sub-Saharan African region.

Governor of Cross River State, Sen. Liyel Imoke, who is also the sixth AMAGE congress Patron is expected to grace the event.

Meanwhile, a delegate of the AMAGE Governing Council lead by the President has arrived Nigeria for a pre-congress assessment visit to the country.
