THE Chief Judge of the Federal Capital Territory, Justice Lawal Gummi, has warned judges against handling cases outside their jurisdiction.

L-R: Administrator, National Judicial Institute, Justice Umaru Eri, former Nigeria's CJ, Justice Idiris Kutigi and CJN/Chairman, Board of Governors, National Judicial Institute, Justice Aioysius Katsina-Alu during the 2010 Conference of All

He spoke in Abuja Tuesday.

Gummi, who was delivering a paper entitled: "Enforcement of judgments at the lower courts" organised by the National Judicial Institute (NJI), said: "It is a very serious matter to handle issues you do not have jurisdiction. If you go out of the dictates of the law, you lose the protection of the law. When you are acting within your jurisdiction, you are protected by the law."

He urged the Sharia, Area and Customary Court judges to avoid the temptation of acting outside their mandate in order not to lose their immunity
