Nations Cup: We’ll not underrate Liberia, Shorunmu declares

Super Eagles goalkeeper trainer, Ike Shorunmu has said that the Super Eagles will fight as they fought against Rwanda to pick the ticket for the Nations Cup billed for South Africa next year.

Speaking to Saturday Vanguard Sports shortly after the draws for the final qualifier were drawn in Jiohannesbur, South Africa, the former Heartland goalkeeper trainer noted that the Lone Star are not a push over and his wards would not underrate them.

"We will fight more than we fought against Rwanda in Calabar in the last game. We hope to get it right from the first leg so the return leg would be a formality. More so, we know that the Liberians are no push overs, consequently, we are focused on picking the ticket for the Nations Cup," Shorunmu said.

Commenting on the Liberians not being a strong force to reckon with, the former Super Eagle goalkeeper said, "I don't believe that. Liberia should be seen as minnows in football. Just last weekend, Central Africa Republic threw Egypt out of the tournament which nobody thought would have been possible but it happened.

"This shows that football has gone beyond mere ranking and playing style. I don't want to be drawn into words with how we will win the game. All I know is that, we are focused on  clinching the ticket," Shorunmu added.
