Eligibility:

•We would like to invite applications for 10 Research Assistants to join our energetic team working to find ways to increase safety and reduce coercion in acute in-patient psychiatric wards. The research programme has been running for some years, and has attracted a high level of research grant income, as well as generating a large number of scientific publications and influencing mental health policy.

•The successful candidates may be experienced research assistants with skills in qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis. We are looking for bright, systematic, hardworking, independent thinking and creative individuals who will work well with the team. Newly qualified graduate and postgraduate mental health nurses are welcome to apply.

Scholarship Description: Under supervision the research assistants will contribute to the Safewards randomised controlled trial to reduce rates of conflict (aggression, self-harm, suicide, absconding, etc.) and containment (seclusion, manual restraint, constant observation, etc.) on acute psychiatric wards. Specifically the role will involve recruiting wards to the Safewards study, gaining consent from wards staff, training staff in research data collection, securing completed questionnaires, working with ward staff to implement interventions and all other tasks required to complete the Safewards RCT.
