Nigeria: JONAPWD makes Case for the Disabled

WORRIED over the poor welfare conditions of persons with disabilities in the country, the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD) has stressed the need for government at all levels and members of the organized private sector to support the cause of the disable.

Barrister Danlami Basharu, the National President of the association made the call over the weekend as part of activities commemorating the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

Speaking on the theme of this year's celebration, tagged: 'Keeping the promise: Mainstreaming disability in the Millennium Development Goals: Towards 2015 and Beyond,' the JONAPWD boss observed that it was in line with the previous year's theme, He said it was the huge gap made by the world community which led to the exclusion of disability as an important component of the MDG that informed its inclusion as a thematic pre-occupation this year.
