Oteh resumes at SEC without workers’ protest

The Director General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Arunma Oteh yesterday resumed work without protest from staff who last week vowed not to allow her back in SEC after she was asked to embark on a compulsory leave by the board of SEC last month.  Oteh was sent on leave by the SEC board to enable its external auditor investigate issues of corruption that was associated with the 'Project 50' that was used to celebrate the 50th anniversary of SEC and the N44 million bribery allegation between Oteh and the chairman of the House of Representatives Committee that investigated the "near collapse" of the capital market.

The report of the SEC committee said it did not found Oteh wanting but was warned over administrative lapses and the Presidency asked her to return to office.

Also last week, the House of Representatives indicted her in its report and called for her prosecution.

Staff of the Commission staged a protest at the headquarters of SEC in Abuja and said due process was not followed before she was asked to return.

But the presidency insisted she must return.

Minister of Finance Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala met with the staff and management of SEC Friday to intimate them while Oteh should return.

The Secretary General of the SEC staff union John Briggs, who earlier led a protest against Oteh told Daily Trust yesterday that workers don't have anything against her.
