Job Title: Joint Venture & Project Accounting Manager

Location: Lagos, Nigeria

Organisation: Atlantic Energy – Nigeria

Purpose of the role:

•   Responsible for anticipating, managing and controlling financial risks with regards to capital projects and joint ventures, both operated and non-operated, by ensuring using accurate and proper budget/ expenditure management and availability of accurate and current financial data

•   Coordinate and manage the Joint Venture and project accounts and reporting to the Financial Controller ensuring complete and accurate accounting of transactions.

Responsibilities:

•   Key member of the Nigeria Business CFO's leadership team and business partner/adviser to the COO and Project and Asset Managers in all financial matters related to the project/assets.

•   Build strong relations with JV Partners, COO and Assets/Project Managers

•   Champion the implementation of adequate internal controls in project/joint ventures to minimise financial risks with regards assets and projects management.

•   Oversee the budgeting and forecasting process, ensuring accurate forecasting processes for the projects/assets.

•   Ensure timely, accurate and complete development of assets/project budgets in conjunction with the Group Finance Team, COO and the Project/Asset Managers.

•   Oversee the timely preparation and processing of cash monthly cash call requirements

•   Ensure complete, timely and accurate capture and allocations of project/JV costs.

•   Ensure the accuracy of monthly project/assets invoicing and cost forecasts.

•   Coordinate and review periodic reconciliation of project/JV accounts.

•   Coordinate the effectively and timely monitoring and reporting of assets/project budget performance. Ensure performance against budget, variance analysis are timely reported and unapproved budget spend is mitigated.

•   Drive all matters relating to revenue – billings, recognition and collection.

•   Ensure timely Partner billings and reconciliation of billings to production and liftings.

•   Champion the proactive identification of cost reduction opportunities and assess risk of cost overruns and their implications.

•   Coordinate the month end reporting process and ensure timely and accurate reporting of JV and project accounts.

•   Ensure integrity of accounting records and compliance with company policies and GAAP and relevant reporting standards (SAS, IFRS).

•   Liaise with the Group Finance Team and Financial Controller on all project related issues

•   Liaise with relevant Joint Venture Partners to resolve issues

•   Ensure timely resolution of joint venture/project financial queries and issues.

•   Support the Group Finance,CFO,COO and Senior Management in the project/asset financial/performance analysis and preparation of relevant financial reports to monitor performance and support decision making.

•   Coordinate the periodic review and reforecast of project/asset budgets and costs

•   Oversee the periodic review the JV/projects transactions/activities and proffer improvement recommendations to the CFO and Project/Asset Managers.

key competencies/experienced required:

•   At least fifteen (15) years post qualifying experience with not less than ten (10) years in a managerial position in the upstream Oil and Gas Industry.

•   Excellent appreciation of budgeting, financial risks and cost controls, accounting and reporting (including IFRS) principles/standards especially in the Oil and Gas industry

•   Strong appreciation of project management skills with ability to multi task and function effectively under pressure

•   Very Strong leadership with excellent negotiating and influencing skills.

•   Ability to think strategically and holistically and provide direction and coaching to the team

•   Results oriented with a high sense of responsibility, accountability and dependability.

•   Strong analytical and problem solving skills with business and financial acumen.

•   Excellent relationship building, interpersonal and communication skills. Political savvy, diplomacy, maturity and tact including the ability to relate with a diversity of people.

•   Strong business ethics and high level of integrity

•   Proficiency in Microsoft office tools and working knowledge of finance and accounting systems (Sun).

Person specification:

•   A university degree in accounting or a finance related field

•   A professional qualification (ICAN, ACA/ACCA or CIMA).
