Job Title: Transmission Engineer

Organisation: a pioneering African Telecommunication Company

Qualification:

•   University graduate in Engineering, Electronics, Telecommunication or Computer Science, from a reputed Engineering institutes.

•   Proficiency in International SDH/SONET digital hierarchy required from fractional T1/E1 to 10G/OC192/STM64 circuit level.

•   In-depth technical knowledge of optical layer 1 transport systems, DWDM, SONET/SDH, cross-connect switching and signal grooming, as well as knowledge of ring and mesh network topologies.

•   Expert knowledge of carrier-class networking architecture, including the following technologies: DWDM. SONET/SDH, IP/MPLS/Ethernet, SNMP and TI1.

•   Experience with routing and signaling protocols control plane technologies including ASON, GMPLS required. Solid understanding of complex transport system hardware and software architectures

•   Excellent presentation skills and positive customer service attitude.

•   Advance knowledge of Visio and creating complex network diagrams.

Experience:

•   7-10 years post graduate work Experience.

•   Minimum of 5 years relevant network engineering Experience in a telco environment with proven background in testing. Commissioning, fault isolation and provisioning of circuits at various transmission rates.

•   Experience with Alcatel-Lucent and Huawei DWDM/SDH equipment and NMS systems would be an advantage.

Note: Experience of data, IP and Broadband solutions is essential in additional to a background of working with Mobile Operators, Telcos and ISPs.
