TWO prominent traditional rulers  of Yoruba land, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade and the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba  Lamidi Adeyemi enlivened the coronation ceremony of the Olofa of Offa, Oba  Mufutau Gbadamosi Esuwoye II in Offa, Kwara State on Friday.

The two monarchs openly embraced each other, thus signaling an end to the age-long supremacy battle between them. Their action elicited spontaneous reaction from the audience, who initially looked bemused and bewildered.

They hailed the two royal fathers for their public display of maturity.

The seemingly intractable supremacy battle between the monarchs dated back to old Oyo state, and it was a tussle over the chairmanship position of the then Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs which subsequently polarized the council.

The creation of Osun state in 1992 by the former President Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida apparently resolved the crisis as the two royal fathers had the chance of heading the traditional council of their respective states.

Ever since, the two paramount rulers had not seen each other eye to eye.
