The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, and the Lagos State Governor, Mr.  Babatunde Fashola, has asked officials of the Lagos State Police Command to do something urgent to tackle armed robbery incidents in the state.  The call follows multiple armed robbery incidents in Lagos metropolis on Sunday, where three police men were killed.

Abubakar, who was the special guest of honour at the presentation of 114 security vehicles donated by the 57 local government areas in the state to the state's police command, berated the police in the state saying, "There is no doubt,  some of you sleep on duty".

He added, "The story of Sunday robbery should not repeat itself. I could not sleep throughout because some of you were sleeping.

"I have directed the Assistant Inspector General for Zone ll and the commissioner of police in the state to sit down, re-strategise and improve on the security of Lagos.

"We can't fold our arms and allow a few criminals to terrorize residents. Policemen must be seen and felt on every road and street in Lagos. The robbery incident is an embarrassment to the Force, and can no longer be accepted".

Also speaking, Governor Fashola said the government cannot pretend that all is well with the kind of robbery incidents recorded in Lagos on Sunday.  He said the state's police command must rise up to the occasion.

The governor appealed to residents of the state to remain calm, assuring them the situation is under control.
