The PDP has commended President Goodluck Jonathan for reversing the planned introduction of the N5,000 currency note by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Mr Olisa Metuh, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, gave the commendation in a statement made yesterday in Abuja. He described the action as another clear indication of the responsiveness of the PDP-led Federal Government to the wishes of the people.

"The PDP-led Federal Government under Jonathan has a listening ear. `Power to the people' is the slogan of our great party.

"The President has once more demonstrated that this slogan is inviolable and that under us, power really belongs to the people,'' the statement said. It added that the PDP would continue to anchor its policies and programmes on the needs of the people and would  not relent in upholding the interest of the nation.

It stressed that the primary concern of the PDP was to ensure the welfare of the generality of Nigerians. The statement added that the party was aware that the opinion of the people in all government policies and actions was important. This, it said, was a cardinal premise of the party`s manifesto, adding that it was also the essence of president's decision to reverse the introduction of the N5,000 note. The statement also commended the National Assembly for being the true representative of the people.

the statement expressed optimism that the synergy between the National Assembly and the Executive was a sure way to ensure the success of the Federal Government`s transformation programme.(NAN)
