Flood: 5 Displaced Women Deliver Babies

Philomena Ogedu, who delivered in a boat while being ferried to Idah from Ibaji.              FIVE women from Ibaji Local Government Area of Kogi State, who were displaced by River Niger which recently overflowed its bank, have been delivered of babies.
     One of the women, Philomena Ogedu, from Ichala Ayode village in Ibaji Local Government Area, said she delivered inside a boat while being ferried from Ibaji to a relief camp in Idah.
      According to her, she went into labour while fleeing her village, Ichala Ajode Ibaji, for safety after it was submerged by flood.
   " When our village was submerged, my mother and I started walking in the flood, looking for  a place that was not submerged. But when we  could no longer walk, we started swimming so that we would not get drowned. After swimming for some time, I started having pains around my tummy," she said.
      She said when she told her mother that she was tired, she encouraged her to continue swimming and that they would soon get to a safe place.
      She further said that she was totally worn out when a boat came to their rescue.
     The parish priest of Saint Mary's Catholic Church, who confirmed the development, said four other women had given birth at therelief camp in the hospital.
     Meanwhile,  as River Niger begins to recede, dangerous reptiles have taken over houses submerged by the flood.
    Nigerian Tribune  gathered that some affected people, who returned to their houses that were submerged by flood, were confronted by pythons, crocodiles, alligators and other sea animals.
      One of them who spoke with the Nigerian Tribune, Mallam Bayo Ozi Jimoh,  said he killed two snakes and one big grass cutter right at the front of his house.
Meanwhile, hundreds of persons in some communities in Ahoada West and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Areas of Rivers State have been displaced by a flood incident arising from the overflowing of the Orashi River.
      Places affected in the council areas include Mbiama, Akinima, and the four Joinkrama communities, Ahoada West and Ndoni in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni.
