Calls for support for Super Eagles
THE Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) says the injury-forced absence of Super Eagles' captain, Joseph Yobo, from weekend's AfricaNations Cup qualifier against Liberia will not stop the Eagles from beating the Lone Stars soundly at the U.J Esuene Stadium, Calabar.
Yobo, who plays for Fenerbahce of Turkey, has been ruled out of the game that determines which country qualifies for next year's Nations Cup to be hosted by South Africa.
Super Eagles' coach, Stephen Keshi, confirmed that Yobo's knee was said to haveswollen up with a torn cruciate ligament after he played 70 minutes for his Turkish side last weekend, adding that Fenerbache's doctors were yet to determine whether he could come to Nigeria to morally boost his mates for the tie against Liberia.
"If the medical team in Turkey clears him, weshould be expecting Yobo on Friday (tomorrow) for the Saturday game," he said. "Our hearts go out to him and his family andat this point we want to say his health is very important to us because we will still need him for the Nations Cup proper and theWorld Cup qualifiers.
"We know he loves to play games like this, that was why he was shedding tears, but wehave assured him that capable replacement will help secure the ticket to South Africa 2013 Nations Cup."
NFF General Secretary, Musa Amadu, told journalists on Wednesday in Abuja that even though the federation has not been officiallynotified of the Yobo's unavailability, he was convinced that the skipper's absence would not stop the team from beating the Liberiansto secure the 2013 Nations Cup ticket.
