Dear Friends,

Let me start this note by apologising for not having updated my page in almost a week. I have been incredibly busy since the 50th anniversary celebrations due to events that happened on that day and thereafter which necessitated me giving my full focus to the task of governance. I also have been on a state visits to parts of the country to meet with you in your communities to see first hand the progress that has been made and know your needs. But I am back now and our conversation can continue.

Today, President Goodluck Jonathan noted on his Facebook page, Heartfelt Commiseration to the Victims of the Flood in Lagos and Ogun States. Please read.

Quote I commiserate with the victims of the flood in Lagos and Ogun states. I know what a trying experience you are going through because I recently visited flood victims in Sokoto and Kebbi states to experience first hand their pain. I want to assure you that just as the Federal Government came to the aid of the victims in the Northwest in a timely manner we will also come to your aid. Already, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has been directed to immediately provide relief to the victims. This is a palliative measure pending when the government will have assessed the full extent of the damage in order that we may take short term measures to fully alleviate the sufferings of the victims and long term measures to prevent a re-occurrence as much as is humanly possible.

Thank God For Little Drops of Water

Little drops of water it is said, make a mighty ocean. I believe this. We are making progress with the new super grid to transmit power through out Nigeria while also moving full steam ahead in building new power plants and maintaining the old ones. However, we still have to think nationally and act locally and make sure that where there is opportunity we make use of it to give power to Nigerians by whatever means we can. This is why I have committed the Federal Government to develop coal-powered and solar turbines to generate power for the Nsukka campus of the University of Nigeria and its environs.

Today, President Goodluck Jonathan noted on his Facebook page, "From Chile, a Lesson In Restoring the Dignity of Man". Please read.

QuoteGoodluck Jonathan - I was recently represented by the Vice President at the Founders. Day lecture of the University of Nigeria and I was struck by the motto of the University-"To restore the dignity of man". That phrase had been playing in my mind especially as it represents the end result of the type of leadership my late boss, President Umaru Musa Yar'adua and I decided to give to Nigeria-Servant Leadership-but it took on a whole new meaning to me as I watched the raw display of leadership by example displayed during the rescue of the Chilean miners.

Believe In Nigeria

For a while now I have been talking on the theme of changing our attitude to Nigeria. I remember that on this page I took you down memory lane and x-rayed some of the challenges we have faced in the last fifty years. I remember that I did say to you that if we want a different and better result for the next fifty years we have to do some things differently. In my opinion, the most important is this-as we enter into the next fifty years of our national existence, all of us, both the leaders and the led have to move from being onlookers to being stake holders in the Nigerian project. I have thought hard and long about this and I believe that we can only make this paradigm shift if we all and especially the leaders at all levels begin to assess our social services in Nigeria.

Today, President Goodluck Jonathan noted on his Facebook page, a congratulatory message to Mr. Kayode Fayemi. Please read.

Goodluck Jonathan 16 October 16:40

QuoteI want to seize this opportunity to congratulate the candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria in the 2007 gubernatorial elections in Ekiti State, Mr. Kayode Fayemi, who has been declared the rightful winner of the elections. The Federal Government which I head accepts the verdict of the Court of Appeal and has sinc...e put machinery in motion to give effect to the judgement in demonstration of our belief in the supremacy of the rule of law. I commend Mr. Fayemi's patience and commitment to the cause of justice even though I regret that it took him so long to get it. The delay in reaching a final determination of this case once again exposes loop holes in our electoral laws which we have to plug. I am glad to note that these loopholes have caught the eyes of the Legislative arm of government which is working with other arms of government to amend current legislation to ensure a resolution of these issues. Finally, the Federal Government notes the pronouncement of the Court of Appeal on the shortcomings in the conduct of the elections and will take corrective measures to address the shortcomings of those individuals and institutions under the control of the Federal Government and we will urge the INEC to take corrective measures to address those concerns which relate to them since the government is in no position to interfere with an independent body. Finally I call on both parties to the dispute to accept the verdict of the court and work together on the basis of no victor no vanquished so that the people of Ekiti State can continue to enjoy the dividends of democracy as they did under the previous administration of ex governor Segun Oni without rancour and bitterness.

Yesterday, President Goodluck Jonathan reported her visit to the victims of Ogun and Lagos floods and I quote!

QuoteI have just returned from visiting victims of the floods in Lagos and Ogun state to see first hand the extent of the damage caused by the deluge and find out what the urgent needs are so the Federal Government can offer assistance. Earlier, I had directed the relief agencies under Federal control to do what is needful in the immediate while we look at long term solutions to possibly prevent recurrences. I told the victims of the flood that the Federal Government will support them by way of further assistance and this will be channelled through the State Governments of the affected areas. In finding solutions, we will examine all the suggestions made by leading experts including urban and regional planners, environmentalists and scientists among others. It is our resolve that this reoccurring problem which has caused so much pain to our citizens is eventually brought to end.

Today, President Goodluck Jonathan reported about Total Radar Coverage of the Nigerian Airspace Project (TRACON) and I quote!

QuoteNigeria's airspace is now totally covered by radar as a result of the Total Radar Coverage of the Nigerian Airspace Project (TRACON). What this means is that Nigeria now have the technology to reduce air disasters to the barest minimum and to police and protect Nigeria's airspace from unauthorised entry.

Goodluck Jonathan's administration has taken steps to improve health and safety conditions in the aviation sector which has seen improvements that have been noticed internationally as evidenced by the International Category 1 Safety Assessment Certificate recently granted to Nigeria by the U.S Federal Aviation Authority (FAA).

Yesterday, President Goodluck Jonathan said "All For One and One For All" and I quote!

QuoteI have been in Bayelsa state visiting with the people and commissioning several projects completed by the state government. In the cause of the state visit, I interacted with citizens and other stakeholders of host communities who raised issues regarding environmental pollution arising from oil industry activities. Now let me state that I am committed to helping all host communities get a better deal and this is not limited to the Niger Delta. One of the first things I did when I assumed by the grace of God and the Nigerian people this office as President of Nigeria was to sign the HYPPADEC Bill in to law in order to halt the years of neglect suffered by the host communities to the power industry in Niger, Kebbi, Kogi and Kwara states and enable them get something from the resources that God in His infinite wisdom has blessed them with. I believe that the people of these states states are as deserving as people any where of some form of derivation and I will continue to take steps to ease their burdens occasioned by the environmental issues caused by the power industry.
