Kebbi State’s opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) claims the state government “wasted” N20 billion during its 100 days in office.
In a statement released in Birnin Kebbi on Friday, State PDP Chairman Alhaji Usman Bello-Suru made the allegation in response to the All Progressives Congress’s (APC) first 100 days in office.
In spite of severe problems throughout the state, the PDP claims that N20 billion has been spent on improving the appearance of Birnin Kebbi.

“For a very long time, the people of Zuru Emirate have been inconvenienced by the lack of motorable roads, and N7 billion would have been enough to fix the situation.
When more than 10,000 people have been dispersed and displaced due to banditry, Bello-Suru said, “it is on record that the state Governor spent close to N2 billion on domestic and international trips with no bearing on human development.”
More than that, he said that billions of dollars were wasted on “white elephant projects centered in one local government area, Birnin Kebbi.”
The party charged the Kebbi government with inefficiency, neglecting the health sector, and distributing “toxic” fertiliser to farmers.
Furthermore, it criticized the N10 billion contract awarded to finish the state secretariat.
The PDP argues that ending the “poverty which is killing our people on a daily basis in every corner of the state” should be a top government priority.
The Chief Press Secretary for Governor Nasir Idris, Ahmed Idris, responded by calling the allegations false.
He claimed that the PDP’s unease was due solely to the radical changes instituted by the APC administration over the past 100 days.
In light of the governor’s positive impact on Kebbi’s development, I am compelled to assure the people that many PDP members have come around to supporting the policies and programs of the current administration.
The fact that several PDP officials have publicly praised Governor Nasir Idris for his accomplishments during his brief tenure as governor is not a secret. The PDP had a strong showing at the 100-day anniversary party, he said.
Instead of making false accusations, Idris urged the PDP to work together with the governor to advance the state. (NAN).
