The Ugandan Champions KCCA FC will be looking to restore their pride as one of Ugandan famous clubs both locally and internationally when they take on Sudan`s El Merriekh in the return leg of the Orange CAF Champions League this weekend.
With the advantage of 2-0 from the first leg match in Khartoum KCCA FC will look to the great form of young custodian Salim Jamal who is having his first continental club competition game at home this weekend.
Salim Jamal 19, helped KCCA FC to keep a clean sheet away in Khartoum when he saved a penalty and will go for the Saturday 15th February encounter with motivation of emulating his father Abdullah Salim who was a Ugandan striker in late 70`s.
Speaking to Cafonline.com Jamal Salim said he was up to a task to give a gift of great performance to the father who has travelled 200 km from the village to be at the stadium in Kampala as the young custodian plays his first game on continental level before his father.
Cafonline.com: At 19 what inspires you to produce such good performances?
Jamal Salim: I have worked hard to get here and the first inspiration has always been my father who wanted me to be a striker like him but I decided to take up goal keeping because l felt more comfortable in this position. I believe it works either way because he has always encouraged me to do what l can in the best possible way so l hope qualifying for the next round will be something great in my career and also a gift the father who has been around me to encouraging me always.
Cafonline.com: What has your father said to you since your return for Khartoum last week?
Jamal Salim: He as promised to come and watch me for the first time in action, I have always played well but he has not been watching me but after being in the press for the all week he has called me and said he will be in the stands. I believe this is a great step in my career and l am looking forward for keeping a clean sheet in the return leg and l know as a team we can make it but very cautious because we know Al Merreikh can turn the tables on us. Of course we remember they won the last time they were here in 2009 but not this time round, we want to prevent that happening again.
The game will kick-off at 1700hrs in Mandela National Stadium in Kampala about 12 kilometers away from the city center with Burundian referee Thierry Nkurunziza, Ramdahan Nijimber and Herye Kakunze in charge as Davis Ogenche from Kenya as reserve referee and Kidane Melles from Eritrea and match commissioner.
