Former Kano State Governor and leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is reportedly considering a move to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as opposition figures intensify realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Local reports in Kano indicate that Kwankwaso is in talks with the ADC over a possible alliance involving former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
The reported negotiations come amid indications that significant portions of Kwankwaso’s political structure in Kano are gravitating towards the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The development is also said to involve key members of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Kwankwaso’s loyal political base.
Sources said the talks are ongoing, even as Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, is reportedly expected to defect to the APC, a move believed to have heightened tension within the Kwankwasiyya camp.
Speaking to newsmen, a former NNPP chieftain, Habib Hisham, who has since joined the ADC, confirmed that the party is open to welcoming Kwankwaso into its fold in Kano State.
“I know our party leaders are working on bringing Kwankwaso to join the ADC. We will be happy to welcome him,” Hisham said, adding that such a move could significantly influence the dynamics of the 2027 elections.
