The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed speculations that he is nursing an ambition to contest the 2027 presidential election.
Wike said it would be unfair for him to run for the presidency against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who appointed him as a minister.

President Tinubu had, in 2023, appointed Wike, a former two-time governor of Rivers State, as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
InfoStride News recalls that during the 2023 general election, Wike and members of the G-5 Integrity Group within the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, openly supported Tinubu’s presidential bid.
The group worked against the PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, despite threats of expulsion from the party.
Speaking during a media chat in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Wike said he had no intention of contesting against his employer.
“We are the ones here that are going to make it happen. I’m not going to run because it would be unfair for me to go and stand in an election against the person who appointed me.
“At least I have conscience, even though people are rumouring that, ‘be careful of Wike, he is going to run,’” he said.
