Innocent Idibia says he would donate 60 percent of proceeds from a soon-to-be released song to alleviate the sufferings of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Nigeria.
The music star stated this on Thursday, June 8, 2017, when he visited the United Nations High Commissions for Refugees (UNHCR) office in Abuja.
The popular musician had through his foundation – 2Face Foundation – donated the sum of N3.5 million to the UNHCR on Monday, February 27, 2017, in Lagos.
2Face described as āheart wrenchingā the situation of IDPs in Nigeria and the world in general.
āIt is very heartbreaking to be stranded in your own home or someone elseās country. It is a terrible thing to happen to any human being,ā 2Face said.
āMany people hear about these things but because it has not hit them directly, they tend to downplay it mentally. But if you get a first-hand experience of what these people are facing, it is one of the most miserable positions to find yourself in life. The situation is crazy and heart wrenching,” he noted.
According to 2Face, the song which would be released on June 20 — the World Refugee Day ā would be available for downloads and caller back tunes.
āI have decided to dedicate my time, resources and my voice to supporting the UNHCR in this massive endeavour that they have taken upon themselves.
āOn the 20 of June which is the World Refugee Day, I will be releasing a song which will be monetized for the world to download. It can be used as ringtones, caller tunes and 60percent of the proceeds from this song will be donated to the UNHCR to further this humanitarian effort that they have begun. If they donāt do it, nobody would. The cost of downloading this song wonāt be more than N50 ā N100.
āWe have to keep talking and no amount of talk is enough to create awareness for people to understand this issue and do something about it,ā 2Face added.
He commended the UNHCR for the āmassive taskā of catering for the needs of IDPs all over the world.
The deputy country representative of the UNHCR, Bridget Eno called on well-meaning Nigerians to also contribute to alleviating the sufferings of IDPs in Nigeria.
