At least 300 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kawo Ward, Kaduna North Local Government Area, have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Receiving the new members, a permanent member of the Kaduna State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Jamilu Haruna, described the defection as a strong endorsement of Governor Uba Sani’s leadership and achievements.
Haruna stated that within two years in office, Governor Sani had made significant progress in areas such as infrastructure, agricultural reform, rural development, security, and education.

“This defection is not surprising. Even members of the opposition acknowledge Governor Uba Sani’s giant strides in security, education, food security, and citizens’ welfare,” Haruna said.
He noted that Sani’s developmental strides have further strengthened Kaduna’s strategic alliance with the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Haruna also commended the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Alhaji Sani Liman Kila, for supporting the mobilisation effort.
In his remarks, the APC Chairman of Kaduna North Local Government, Alhaji Suleiman Wada Usman, welcomed the defectors on behalf of Governor Sani and assured them of equal treatment within the party.
“You will be treated fairly and equally in our party. No one will be considered a second-class member,” Usman said.
The leader of the defectors, Professor Usman Muhammad, a former PDP senatorial aspirant for Kaduna Central, said he led 225 PDP members into APC because they believe in Governor Sani’s inclusive governance.
He criticised the PDP for sidelining experienced party members, despite their qualifications and commitment to service, adding that their defection was driven by a desire to support a more people-oriented administration.
