At least 5,000 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ikorodu Local Government Area of Lagos State have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The defectors were received on Friday at the APC secretariat in Ikorodu by the party’s chairman in the area, Waheed Animashaun, who assured them of equal treatment within the ruling party.
Addressing the new members, Animashaun emphasized the importance of participation in ward meetings for proper integration, adding that their Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) remains their political weapon.

“Our doors are always open to defectors from opposition parties in Ikorodu, with the assurance of equal rights for everyone, whether old or new.
This defection is a testament to APC’s acceptance in Ikorodu, further assuring our victory in the upcoming council elections,” he said.
He also urged all members, both old and new, to validate their membership cards ahead of the polls.

He described the decision as a collective one, citing the visible achievements of the APC-led administration in the local government area.
Shittu expressed gratitude to the APC leadership for welcoming him and his supporters warmly.

Speaking at the event, former Lagos State Deputy Governor Abiodun Ogunleye urged members to obtain their APC membership cards and actively support the party in the upcoming council election.
“The PVC is your power. Come out en masse and vote for a landslide victory,” Ogunleye charged party members.
He also called on supporters to align with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which he said was focused on improving citizens’ welfare and driving Nigeria’s economic growth.
