Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa has emerged as a surprise target for Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea, reports the Daily Star.
.
The Brazilian forward has hit an impressive 19 goals in 19 La Liga games this season, and with Chelsea crying out for a consistent striker, then Diego Costa may just fit the bill.
.
Although the Brazilian has committed his immediate future to the Spanish outfit, Chelsea feel they have the advantage in the form of Costa’s agent being Mourinho’s agent.
.
An advantage which sees Chelsea move into poll position to land the hotshot striker, ahead of Arsenal and Liverpool, who have both declared interest. Costa’s buy out clause is valued at £32 million, a financial situation that would suit a club like Chelsea.
.
Since the sale of Colombian striker Radamel Falcao to AS Monaco in the summer, Costa has really hit top form with his 23 goals in all competitions, including four goals in three Champions League appearances
..
The Brazilian has embarked on a long road to the top, having started out at Portuguese club Braga, before a short stint at Penafiel. Atletico Madrid signed him up in 2007 but, during his original two year spell at the club, failed to make an appearance.
.
During his first spell at Atletico Madrid, he was loaned out three times to Portuguese and Spanish sides, before being permanently sold in 2009 to Spanish side Valladolid.
.
He netted eight times in 36 games during the 2009/10 season which convinced Atletico Madrid to re-sign the youngster.
.
A final loan move to Rayo Vallecano would sandwich a run of impressive games for Atletico Madrid, but only this season has he flourished into a red hot, sought-after centre forward, who would certainly add goals to Chelsea’s weak attacking line.
