Ander Herrera has urged his Manchester United teammates they must challenge for the Premier League title this season.
United are still yet to do that since Sir Alex Ferguson guided the club to their 20th title in 2013.
The best they have managed since is fourth place under Louis van Gaal in 2015, and Herrera accepts the pressure will be on this season.
Speaking after the 3-0 friendly win over Valerenga in Oslo on Sunday, the midfielder said: “I know we have to improve in the Premier League, but we were the only team to win three pieces of silverware last season so we have to say that as well.
“In the Premier League we have to improve, we want to fight for the title, but we know it’s not going to be easy to repeat the three titles.”
Herrera missed the final game of United’s tour of the United States against Barcelona with a hip injury but returned to play the second 45 minutes against Valerenga.
United face Sampdoria in Dublin on Wednesday before they play for the UEFA Super Cup against Real Madrid on Aug. 8.
Matic, who is expected to sign from Chelsea, is in line to make his debut against the European champions in Macedonia and Herrera is ready to play his part, too.
He added: “I’m good. It was OK because it was not so painful, just a kick on my hip. The first two days I was really bad but now I’m better again and feel that I can play more than 45 minutes. I’m happy, but now we have to be ready for the UEFA Super Cup, which is another title to fight for.”
