In a bid to safeguard health of Nigerians, the National Agency For Food and Drug Administration and Control, the bagency ensures that all regulated products by NAFDAC, have expected quality. The Agency has therefore developed a 5-year traceability plan towards achieving supply chain visibility.
According to NAFDAC, it has partnered with pre-shipment agent in China and India to eliminate substandard medicines in Nigeria. The Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof Mojisola Adeyeye added 70% of the medicines used in Nigeria are imported, while 30% are produced in the country.
She therefore stated that attention must be given to both imported and local medicines in the country. She assured that the pre-shipment agency are responsible for making sure that sampled products packaged by them in their own countries are of high quality.
Professor Adeyeye noted that NAFDAC and the agents now relate properly and CRIA’ work with the laboratories where the medicines are tested before shipment. NAFDAC receives daily report from the Clean Report of Inspection and Analysis Agents (CRIA’). Thus preventing Nigeria from being used as a dumping ground for fake medicines.
